Can I Change My Breast Implant Size After Surgery?
Whether you are seeking a breast size increase, reduction, or a more natural look, it is possible to adjust your breast implants to better suit your aesthetic goals. Changing breast implant size is a personal decision and can be driven by various factors, including:
- Lifestyle Changes: Significant weight fluctuations, pregnancy, or changes in your physical activity level might lead you to reconsider the size and type of your implants.
- Aesthetic Preferences: Over time, your aesthetic preferences might change. What seemed appealing a decade ago might not align with your current tastes or lifestyle.
- Physical Comfort: Larger implants may lead to physical discomfort in some cases, including back and neck pain. Reducing the size of your implants may help alleviate these issues.
Breast revision surgery is typically performed to replace implants with new or different ones, and it can also address any issues that may have arisen from the initial surgery, such as capsular contracture, implant malposition, or dissatisfaction with implant size. This surgery allows you to change the size, shape, or type of your implants and can also be used to correct any symmetry issues.
At Weston Plastic Surgery, board-certified plastic surgeon Robert Rothfield, MD, FACS performs two types of breast revision surgery. These are:
Breast Implant Exchange
Dr. Rothfield most commonly performs breast implant exchanges, often changing out a patient’s saline breast implants for silicone ones. Some patients also opt to upgrade their implants to alter their breast size or shape. Additionally, in situations where an implant complication arose, some patients may choose to exchange their breast implants instead of removal without replacement.
Breast Implant Removal
In some cases, those who previously received implants from breast augmentation surgery no longer desire them. Breast implant removal is a procedure that involves completely removing the implants, which typically results in the patient’s breasts reverting back to their original shape and size; however, for some patients, there may be some residual ptosis (sagging) once the implants are removed. Individuals who experience this may choose to pursue a breast lift to remove excess skin and elevate the breasts.
Dr. Rothfield can help determine which approach best suits your individual needs and aesthetic goals during the consultation process. For more information about changing breast implant size, or to schedule a consultation, please contact our office today.
