Forehead Lift (Brow Lift)
Sagging or lowered eyebrows can create a tired or sad appearance. A forehead lift can help rejuvenate your look by elevating the eyebrows to a more youthful, natural position. Depending on your specific facial characteristics, a number of options may be available to you. These can range from a conventional forehead lift to a more minimally invasive technique, such as the lateral subcutaneous brow lift. For patients with a significant amount of excess skin in the upper eyelids, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) may be recommended for more comprehensive and rejuvenating results.
At Weston Plastic Surgery, board-certified plastic surgeon Robert Rothfield, MD, FACS, has extensive experience performing a variety of facial rejuvenation procedures, including brow lift surgery. Combining advanced surgical training with years of expertise, Dr. Rothfield is committed to providing personalized care, customizing each brow lift to complement a patient’s unique facial features and achieve natural-looking results.
Who Is a Candidate for a Brow Lift?
A good candidate for a brow lift is typically someone experiencing sagging eyebrows, deep forehead creases, or frown lines that create a tired, angry, or aged appearance. Ideal candidates are often healthy adults who may be bothered by these signs of aging and want to achieve a more refreshed, youthful look. Brow lift surgery can also benefit individuals with low or heavy brows that contribute to hooded upper eyelids. Candidates should have realistic expectations about procedure results and understand that while a brow lift can smooth wrinkles and raise the brows, it will not stop the natural aging process. Non-smokers or those willing to quit before surgery generally heal better and achieve optimal results. A consultation with Dr. Rothfield can help determine if a brow lift is the right option for you based on facial anatomy, skin condition, and personal aesthetic goals.
How Is a Brow Lift Performed?
Several techniques can be used to lift the brows and smooth forehead wrinkles, depending on individual needs. Excess skin may be removed, and the muscles responsible for frown lines can be adjusted or released. Incisions are carefully closed to minimize scarring, most of which is concealed within the hairline. The best technique is usually determined during your consultation based on facial anatomy, the degree of sagging, and your desired results.
Brow lift surgery is typically performed as an outpatient procedure at the Surgery Center of Weston. It often takes between one and two hours, with a post-operative visit generally scheduled for the next day.
How Is Recovery Following a Brow Lift?
In most cases, brow lift recovery involves minimal discomfort, mild swelling, bruising, and tightness in the forehead area, which gradually improves over one to two weeks. Most patients can return to light activities within a week, but strenuous exercise should be avoided for at least three to four weeks. Keeping the head elevated and applying cold compresses can also help reduce swelling. Temporary numbness or itching around the incision sites is common as the area heals, while final results often become more noticeable as swelling subsides over several weeks. Following Dr. Rothfield’s post-operative instructions help support proper healing and quality results.
